I have wanted to write a nice entry, but wordpress somehow did not manage to save my draft and I am left with a whole new page of fill-in-the-blanks. That was the day before. Today I wanna write about how I detest, absolutely detest police officers who ASK for bribes. Now i’m not saying that I am a goody two shoe who has never ever bribed a policeman/government officer but heck! I am certainly pissed off with policemen asking for bribes by sitting in the car outside my house! Okay, it was about 1:20am, so what? It’s still outside my house!!
Darling, I know you don’t want me to get into trouble, but I really didn’t think paying them RM50 is a good idea. We were never in the wrong (read: NEVER in the wrong), it’s outside MY house and we weren’t doing anything hanky panky. How dare they victimise us like that?? I am confident enough to say that if I had to wake my parents up to settle that matter, and NOT pay the bribe, I would.
Is there actually a law to say that we need not get down the car at all when the police approaches us? I think we need to find out. Malaysians do need to educate themselves on what to do and what not to do, so that we are better prepared to face these situations. Please don’t forget that we as citizens pay tax and THEIR salary. They are supposed to work for us, not work against us! Stopping their car in the middle of an empty street, having a spotlight shine directly to my face and the fat ass officer (he is fat, okay) talking to you outside the car for 15 bloody minutes really did piss me off. They rob you of that RM50 and our precious time together! Within that 15 minutes we would have kissed goodbyes and you would be on your way home, both of us would have had a good happy night following a great movie.
Next time we need to insist on looking at some ID. If someone wants to copy my ID (ie. bloody police officers) then well I want theirs too. I want their ID numbers, name and even the car number plate on the patrol car my parents helped pay for!
If those police officers feel they are not paid enough then they should go ask for a raise, or change jobs! This is ridiculous, why is there an anti-rasuah campaign when there are still officers who receive or collect bribes?? We might as well use the money for printing those badges to pay the officers straight off, right? How can we curb this effectively? I know offering a bribe is wrong, both parties are in the wrong. But heck, a police officer’s mum would sure be proud to know that her son/daughter is a respectable corrupted officer!
Then again, “poor” Malaysian police officers might not even know what the internet is, and definitely would not be reading a random blog on them. BAH! I don’t think they even have time to come online, they’re too busy collecting bribes.. -_-” I’m sure there are police officers who aren’t corrupted, all of us do not praise them enough for being “clean”. I do not know what the world has come to, when the wrongful actions were not penalised and doing the right thing has to be praised and is not actually expected.
Yeah, way to go Malaysia! It really does break my heart to know that the country I was born and bred in is in such a dire state, when even the policemen are not righteous. Now I know why I abandoned my childhood ambition and did not want to be a policewoman anymore. A police officer catches the bad guys, but who ever said they were the good guys?
I’m pledging to myself and to you who read this entry, to not offer bribes when I am approached by a police officer. I will also not succumb to requests for bribes, and will always ask for an ID. I will not get down the car in any case (I don’t believe I have to, unless it is an actual formality) and I will try to have my recorder ready. I am willing to provide whatever assistance I am asked of, and they will have my full co-operation. Please do not ask me for bribes, I would have had your ID jotted down, and possibly your voice on my recorder.
