Today is yet another quiet day for me. Woke up pretty late again, but this time around, i woke up with an objective in mind – to make full use of my time by cleaning up my room. My darling has always been telling me that my room is too dusty and honestly, i know it is, the problem is, i have a dust allergy problem. I don’t mind washing the toilet or doing the dishes after meal but when it comes to dusting and sweeping the room/house, it just aint my thing.
The last time i tidied up my room was 3 months ago and that was when my darling was coming back to M’sia. This time around, i’m cleaning up my room cos my darling is coming back from her holiday. =) I just want her to be comfortable in my room. I swept + wiped the floor, swept the fan, changed the bedsheet and scrubbed the toilet floor. Took me quite a while to do all that.
While my hands were busy with the cleaning and sweeping , my brain was busy with some random thoughts. One of the thing that came up was writing a book,a book that will be of practical use for lotsa young adults like myself. I’ve even came up with a name for it : A Malaysian-Chinese Guide to A (Almost) Perfect Wedding.
Why that title you wonder?
It’s simple, i don’t think i see any Wedding for Dummies out there, meaning there is a HUGE market potential and even if there is one, it won’t be applicable in the Malaysian Chinese context. We the Chinese is a very much ritual + cultural + superstitious breed, don’t think the Tom, Dick and Harry’s ways of wedding are suitable for the Ah Chong, Ah Kau and Ah Beng here.
I’ve been to a number of weddings this year, a few of those which i was actively involved in. Drawing from this very lil experience of mine, maybe i THINK can share a few pointers for those couple-to-be. I haven’t really thought through the whole details of the book, but one major pointer that i’ve came up with was :
If you can afford to pay thousand of dollars on a wedding table, don’t stinge on the emcees.
The emcees can really make or break the wedding dinner – that comes frm my personal experience as an emcee =P
So yea, that’s my random thought for that few hours that i was labouring away cleaning up my room.
I went for my dinner right after that, had another round of fried tong fun, only this time around it’s at one of those ‘tai chow’ place and not the hawker stall place. This ‘tai chow’ place that i went to, was a real melting pot of cultures – there were the Chinese, of course, the Indian, the Sikh, the Mat Salleh, and even the Jap! There was this huge group of Jap guys sitting in one of corner of the shop with lotsa beer bottles on the table. My initial thought when i saw them – they are out to have fun, beer first, chicks later.
I was proven wrong.
Another bunch dropped by later with family and kids and it was a real eye opener to see how these bunch of Jap guys were so into the kids and not the chicks! The ladies were just left mingling amongst themselves in a corner, probably gossiping, but the guys were all over the kids. Joking, hugging, playing with the young ones. Never knew Jap guys are the family type.
Surprise, surprise..
After dinner i decided to drive around abit. It’s funny how i’m not used to the lifestyle without my darling. 3 months ago, i was living alone in KL. I had my dinners alone, I spent my weekends alone, my life back then was all bout office and downloaded drama series. Back then, i was alone but it never felt so lonely. Nowadays, it’s just unbearable to be lonely. I do wonder, what sort of life have i been living for the past 3 years? In a way, this does make me treasure my darling even more. It’s so important for us to just take time off to take stock of our lives. Time flies – especially the happier ones.
I would like to take a moment here to count my blessings and to forget all the misgivings that i’ve had.
2008 had been an eventful year for me, full of ups and downs and tears and laughters. I would like to welcome 2009 with opened arms and a heart that has already been stolen by my darling gf =)
Come tomorrow, it’ll be our 5-month anniversary, it’s a short timespan but a happy one nonetheless
Happy 5-month Anniversary Darling! and …YEAR 2009 – BRING IT ON!
